Unit 3 Blog Entry: Economic Globalization

In this unit I learned that World bank gives loans to member country's in financial difficulty. I found it really interesting that group of eight includes the eight most developed countries with the strongest economies. What surprised me this unit was free trade agreement such as NAFTA give special rights to big corporations. One concept that I am still having difficulty with is prosperity. One question I still have is what is privatization and what does it do.One skill or learning strategy I found helpful was word wheel If I was to teach someone how to use this I would tell them to first pick nine words from this unit and then draw nine boxes, Next write down the word you know the best in first box, Finally
connect each word to other.

Part B: Free Trade

The concept behind free trade is that if trade is free, certain goods and services can be secured at a lower cost abroad than if the trade is domestic .  Each country could specialize in producing a product less expensively and then exchange it with other nations specializing in producing different goods cheaply, allowing them to have a greater range of goods . However, there are also many arguments against free trade as well. For instance, workers that will not benefit from free trade are called low skilled workers, who do manual labor or services. Their jobs can be taken up just as easily by workers from other countries who are willing to work for less .  People who are against free trade believe that if there is a chance of war, a nation should not be dependant on foreign supplies, and some countries want to protect their businesses from cheaper imports . Industries that compete against imports will always promote their own interests by seeking trade restrictions. An example of free trade is the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which is an agreement that brings Canada, U.S., and Mexico( USA and Canada are developed countries and is developing countries) together as one of the largest free trade zones .NAFTA was signed in 1992 to get rid of tariffs on products going between the United States, Canada, and Mexico .

Part C: Globalization Cartoon

globalization cartoons, globalization cartoon, globalization picture, globalization pictures, globalization image, globalization images, globalization illustration, globalization illustrations

This shows that people are against NAFTA because NAFTA only gives special rights to big corporations.

·         The connection is between income per person and life expectancy is how healthy and rich they are
·         Hans Rosling is pro-globalization. I know this because in the video how the 3rd world countries are catching up
·         The most interesting thing I learned was countries are becoming Healthier as the years past
·         One things I would like to learn more about it why pakistan and india were in the bottom is there something wrong with there economy.

Unit 1 Blog

Part A: Reflection

In this unit I learned that metis are children of first nations women and french traders and explorers. I found it really interesting that English became the official language of Alberta in 1892.I can connect what have learned in class to me as a Canadian Citizen because i assimilated my culture, and Canadian culture, and how I live in a multi-cultural and bilingual society. What surprised me this unit was the CRTC created laws so that Canadian music is kept and heard in Canada so we don't just have American music in the radio. One concept I am still having difficulty with is if Canada is officially bilingual,in canada people are anglophone and francophone then why they speak English in most of the cities. One queston I still have is why metis are called metis. One skill or learning strategy I found useful was World wheel. If I was to teach someone how to use this I would tell them to first write 8 worlds in centre of the sheet Then write them  in the boxes Next don't just write them in boxes you should know how to relate them Finally relate one world to another This will help them learn/remember Outsoursing is when Transnational corporation fires its call recievers for other people in different countries.

Part B: Economic Globalization

The reason corporations outsource is the cost of production in pakistan and that is no one's fault but our own. We have made it so expensive to do business here with all of our taxes and unions that in order to make a profit  businesses are in business to make money - they have no choice but to outsource or just go out of business.

Part C: Globalization and Identity

In my opinion Maximime Bernier is saying that they don't need Bill 101 to protect the French language. He is also saying that he know's that everybody can speak frecnch in Quebec and he is confident that they will speak french in future. Bill 101 is also known as  Charter of the French language. It is protecting  the use of the French language in Quebec by prohibiting the Francophone student to go to an Anglophone school. I think they passed bill 101 because Charter of the French language wanted to protect French language.

Argument is in favour of this is that the French language will be persevered and in crease the number of Francophobes. Arguments against is that immigrants have to learn French in order to immigrate into Canada when so may want to speak English.

In my opinion I agree with the statement that the government didn't have to get involved. In some ways I agree that the government should be involved because Quebec wants to separate from Canada, and Bill 101 is encouraging them to stay. This relates to globalization by linguistic identity, how the Government is trying to protect the French linguistic identity.

Historical Globalization

Part A : Reflection

In this unit I learned that Imperialism occurs when a stronger nation take over weaker nation.I found it really interesting that when one strong country gets control of a weaker nation, other strong countries follow. What surprised me in this unit was children got separated from their parents to go to Residential schools. One concept I am still having difficulty with is why did Churches open residential schools. One skill or learning strategy I found useful was soaps because it tells you where it happened, why it happened, for who this happened and when this happened.

Part B : Early Economic Globalization

In Mercantilism the Monarch had the most power.Sometimes a monarch would give one company a complete control in a colony. The monarch would get most of the goods so it made the company's unhappy, so the decided to get all the goods and give the monarch nothing without the monarch knowing and it was called Capitalism came after Mercantilism because many merchants wanted freedom to make their own money.Capitalism was kind of like a competition because in Mercantilism there was only one company but in capitalism there is more than one company so it was harder to get lots of goods. After a while the company wanted things that colony's cant make so they decided to make factories and machines which was called Industrialization, than they wanted things that colony's and factories cant make like fruits but their land only grew some kinds of fruits so they traveled to other countries and took them over for their goods and power and it was called Imperialism.

Part C: Impacts of Imperialism

The source is a white man washing his hands, and on the corners there are different boats and a black man on the ground looking at a Britten man. The source is trying to tell us about Imperialism in Africa which was called Scramble for Africa, which is about more than one country meeting in Berlin for a conference to decide which country's they will Civilize in Africa. British and France controlled most of the Colonies in Africa.

Part D: Legacy of Imperialism in Canada

The Legacy of Imperialism in Canada was determined by the outcome of the Seven Years War between France and Great Britain. For example the British who won the war were given the territories of France in what is now Canada. This shows that the British taking control of the territories the use of English became the primary language for business and government. Another example The British wanted to preserve the loyalty of the Canadians during the war with the American colonies. This shows that the passage of the Quebec Act was to guarantee the Canadians their rights in language and religion .Therefore The war between France and Great Britain helped to determine the outcome of what is now Canada if the war had been decided in a different manner than what we are today could be different.

Part E: Connection to Globalization

Globalization is the system of interaction among the countries of the world in order to develop the global economy.Globalization is related to what I have learned because before every country kept to them self's and didn't what to interact with other country's but know every country is interacting with each other by trading goods and products and most people travel to other places around the world to learn about there culture and to see what it is like in other places. This is how Globalization is related to what I have learned.
